Since its development in Czechoslovakia in the late 1950s, 93 countries around the world have adopted the Samopal vzor 1958 (submachine gun, model of 1958). The U.S.S.R., which compelled every other East Bloc country to produce and issue AK-47s, made a rare exception in allowing the Czechs to manufacture and issue VZ-58 carbines instead, in recognition of the VZ-58's excellent design.

The overall quality, fit and finish of this rifle is excellent. At first glance, the SA Vz.58 resembles the famous Kalashnikov AK-47 assault rifle, but its internal operation is entirely different. A quick handling, gas-operated, semi-auto firearm that is light and well-balanced, the CZ-58 enjoys continued popularity as the standard issue service arm of the Czech Republic and the Slovak armies fifty years after its adoption.
